- Eyewear for Evolving Bangalore | S.R.Gopal Rao Opticians | Bengaluru
We at SR Gopal Rao understand the evolving needs of eyewear. We have all good collections to serve you better. Evolving Bangalore See the Evolving Bangalore Collection | See Bangalore Better | Evolving- A Way of life in Bangalore The best of stories begin a long long time ago. And the story of Bangalore is no exception. In the early 1800s when the British Army had defeated Tipu Sultan’s forces in the 4th Mysore War, they decided to move, lock stock and barrel, from swampy Srirangapatnam to beautiful Bangalore. It was 1809, and Bangalore, the cantonment began to grow. Families of army folks, those employed by the Raj, hopeful traders, and missionaries came from all over. The presence of the empire was becoming evident. For the colonial masters built wide roads, large parks, promenades, churches, schools, hospitals, golf ranges, a race course, dance halls and more. Stately bungalows with fountains and gardens came up in areas like Richmond Town and South Parade (now M.G. Road). And Bangalore, was forever changed. Central Business District 1/1 Central Bangalore Is Constantly Evolving... Two hundred years hence, so much has changed, yet much has remained the same. Step away from the traffic, into the grounds of St. Mark’s Cathedral and maybe you will hear the restored pipe organ, play, like it is 1939. Peer at the arches of Mayo Hall and spare a thought for the young Viceroy, Lord Mayo, who was stabbed to death, in Port Blair. Or look more closely at Hard Rock Cafe, at the end of MG Road and you will see a 100-year old tudor style building which was The Blighty’s Tea Rooms, home to the Salvation Army and a HMV record store before becoming a cool watering hole of today. Central Bangalore has helped mark time, and has kept pace with it. Today, the area has a new set of landmarks that draw curious and envious stares. On one end there's UB City standing tall at 20 floors, on the other end, is the exstensive gourmet store Food Hall, at 1 MG mall. Also, every turn features a prestigious school, from St. Joseph's, to Bishop Cottons and Baldwin’s. Star hotels and consulates of countries ranging from Slovenia to Japan are housed in the lanes crisscrossing this district. 1/1 1/1 But even as central Bangalore retains its exclusive, graceful air - amidst all the chaos reigning all around it - some places have disappeared or changed forever. Gangarams the bookstore on MG Road has moved away, and Premier Bookshop shut down after a long struggle to stay open. India Coffee House has relocated, and Plaza Theatre has given way to an impersonal brand. Big Kids Kemp - India’s first ever megastore, so symbolic of Bangalore in the eighties and 90s, stands forlorn - wearing a dilapidated air. But perhaps, this ceaseless cycle of change is what lends Central Bangalore its sense of momentum. Because even as neon signs overshadow the almost forgotten, quaint charm of the area - a new landmark vies for our attention. Why, as Wikipedia informs us, the Bengaluru Turf Tower, a 156 floor building is all set to change the skyline in 2020. So, buildings may come and go, but the heart of Bangalore, its Central Business District, does promise to go on for ever. Stride into the future with these sleek pair of sunglasses courtesy IC! Berlin . The brand is proud to be 100% German. The Germans are known the world over for precision engineering and these sunglasses are no different. They feature a unique, patented screw-less hinge system, which when combined with high quality materials - make these shades virtually indestructible. The Collection 1/1
- Contact Lenses Fitting | S.R.Gopal Rao Opticians | Bengaluru | Best optical shop in Bangalore
We specialize in contact lens fitting and examinations, a process distinct from regular eye exams, ensuring optimal comfort and vision for each patient. Dispensing Contact Lenses While this may seem to be a routine process for some, it is actually quite different from the regular eye examination that is conducted. Contact lenses sit directly on the corneal surface of the eye. As such the prescription for some users will be different from their spectacle power and this correction is done taking into account the vertex distance. CONTACT LENSES - EYE EXAMINATION AND FITTING What is the vertex distance? Vertex distance is the distance between the back surface of a corrective lens in the spectacle frame and the front of the cornea. In case of spectacles there is a significant vertex distance between the cornea and the back surface of the lens unlike contact lenses which are worn directly on the corneal surface. As such, in order to retain the same visual clarity as seen through spectacles when wearing contact lenses, it is important for the Optometrist to consider the following parameters when prescribing contact lenses: Health of the cornea Spectacle lens power compensated for contact lens prescription Corneal curvature which is checked using the keratometer to arrive at the base curve Patient lifestyle Tear film evaluation Based on these parameters, our Optometrists will prescribe contact lenses. It is for these reasons, we always recommend visiting a qualified Optometrist before making your purchase of contact lenses. One can always set up an appointment with our Optometrists at our store clinics to do this. It is easy to reorder your contact lenses and contact lens solution online, which can be done via our website : www.getspexy.com ;provided your prescription or product hasn’t changed. However, if it is your first time wearing contact lenses or if you are facing discomfort with your existing lenses, then it is important to make an informed decision in consultation with your Optometrist. What is the process for First Time Wearers of Contact Lenses? In addition to points listed above, for first time wearers our Optometrists will recommend trial lenses (if available with the company). This is done for the Optometrist and wearer to be sure about the contact lenses fitting, comfort and for ease of use. The Optometrist will spend time training the patient at the clinic on how to use and maintain these contact lenses. This is a part of our contact lens consultation process. In case of first time wearers or change in contact lenses due to power or product for existing users, our Optometrists will check the contact lens fitting and vision at the time of dispensing these lenses. Doing this will ascertain compatibility, comfort when worn and clear vision. At S.R.Gopal Rao Opticians & Optometrists we also dispense coloured contact lenses (both prescription and plano), RGP contact lenses, Scleral contact lenses and specialised contact lenses for high cylindrical powers and Keratoconus patients . Myopia usually develops in early childhood, and spurts during pre-teens and teens; your child may not even know that they have a vision problem and assume everyone sees the same way and will not bring it to your attention. It becomes important to watch out for signs of vision problems in your child(ren) and ensure yearly eye check ups are a part of their health routine. It is estimated that by 2050, 50% of the world's population would be Myopic. Trouble seeing things written on the black board Complaints by the teacher that the child is jotting down notes incorrectly Partially closing their eye lids/squeezing the eyelids when trying to focus or see things Complaining of headache by the end of the day Frequent rubbing of eyes Excessive blinking/ watering of the eye Desire to sit close to watch TV Wanting to sit in the front row of the classroom to see things clearly Decline in academic performance How do you know if your child has myopia and what are the signs to look out for? What are the Causes of Myopia : The eye experts are unsure of the actual causes of Myopia, but assume it could be largely due to : Genetics - plays a significant role, as children with myopic parents are more likely to develop it. Environmental factors such as - Increased time spent in front of near devices or gadgets and reduced outdoor activities. What is Progressive Myopia? During Pre-teens and Teens, especially between the ages of 6 years and 16 years, there is a lot of growth in the body. The eye being a part of the body tends to grow too! This causes the increase in the axial length for some of those with myopia i.e eyeball elongates, which induces the progression of myopia. If left untreated, it will lead to High Myopia. Apart from blurred vision, high and uncontrolled myopia can cause serious eye conditions such as: Retinal tear/ detachment Myopic macular degeneration Glaucoma Cataracts How to treat and manage Myopia? Several strategies can help manage myopia in children and slow down its progression, while providing clearer vision at the same time. CR-39, or allyl diglycol carbonate (ADC), is a plastic polymer commonly used in the manufacture of eyeglass lenses. The abbreviation stands for "Columbia Resin #39", which was the 39th formula of a thermosetting plastic developed by the Columbia Resins project in 1940. Source : Wikipedia CR-39 material is used to manufacture lenses with indices of 1.50 and 1.56. This material is best suited for low powered prescription lenses. CR-39 is not as strong as MR or Polycarbonate lenses, but visual clarity is much better than polycarbonate lenses. Companies that use this material are Carl Zeiss, Nikon, Nova, Rodenstock and Essilor. What are Mitsui Resin or MR lenses? MR™ lens materials are made from thiourethane resin, a material that provides great lens properties. These lenses provide numerous characteristics, among them clarity, safety, durability, and refractive index. They are available in high indices such as 1.60, 1.67 and 1.74 and are the most widely sought after lenses in the world. They are best suited for prescriptions that have high powers. Companies that use this material are Carl Zeiss, Nikon, Nova, Rodenstock and Essilor. What are Polycarbonate lenses? Polycarbonate lenses are best suited for rimless frames due to its strength and higher resistance to breakage. It is available in a single index of 1.59 and is available in all lens portfolios. It is best suited for low and mid range powered prescription lenses Companies that use this material are Carl Zeiss, Nikon, Nova, Rodenstock and Essilor. What are Trivex lenses? Trivex lenses rival polycarbonate lenses as the safest lenses on the market. It’s made of an exceptionally clear, lightweight lens material, which finally translates into excellent all-day wearing comfort. These lenses are unbreakable and come with a lifetime warranty on breakage. They are available in limited supply and are best suited for low to low-mid range powers in prescription for eyeglasses. Only one company uses this material in dispensing, called Nova. What are Glass lenses? Glass lenses are the earliest material used in correcting vision problems. However the limitations with glass is its weight and ease in breakage putting the eye at great risk. As such materials evolved over time to create a blend of glass and resin in order to use the best properties of both materials. You will find such blends in the lenses provided by Maui Jim sunglasses. Glass provides great optical clarity; the best when compared to other substitutes available in the market. Today, glass is used rarely and most companies have stopped using it as the base for optical lens production. Companies that still continue to manufacture glass lenses are Rodenstock, Vision Rx, Maui Jim(blended) and Ray-Ban. eye opticals near me | optical lens near me

Discover a wide range of quality eyewear at SRGR. With over 1200 hand-picked eyeglasses per store, we prioritize quality, style, fit, and after-sales service. Spectacle Frames & Sunglasses We are the pioneer opticians in Karnataka with roots dating back to the 19th century. Quality products, precision in dispensing and service is our main focus. We stock a wide range of products from lenses to frames & sunglasses. Each store holds over 2000 eyeglasses to help you make the right selection and each eyepiece is hand picked and carefully selected by the management. We look at quality, durability, style, fit, after sales services, material and frame construction when selecting each eyepiece. Brand name and location are important parameters too in procurement. FRAMES AND SUNGLASSES Types of Eyeglasses that we Dispense Rimless Origins of rimless spectacles dates back to 1880’s but it gained popularity in the last few decades. Rimless eyeglasses or the 3 piece frame has undergone several innovations over the years. Brands like Silhouette and Lindberg have made this style a classic. While it was fashionable to wear this style in the 1990’s to early 2000’s, the rimless eyeglasses will remain forever a classic. While its popularity keeps fluctuating, there will always be a consistent set of individuals who can wear nothing else but rimless glasses, hence the demand for these eyeglasses remain. These are delicate to use only because of the mounting but most rimless frames are exceptionally strong and lightweight. We recommend this type of eyeglasses to careful users only because the rimless lenses need to be handled carefully even though the frame is strong. These eyeglasses are also best suited for those who require exceptionally lightweight frames or eyeglasses that don’t stand out on the face. The style blends better with spectacles than sunglasses. Having said, there are some exceptionally sleek and stylish sunglasses in luxury brands that break this pattern. Full Rimmed There are several styles in full rimmed eyeglasses. A large collection of spectacles and sunglasses full into the category of full rimmed frames. These eyeglasses are made of different materials, in various colours and sizes to meet the needs of all types of faces. Full rimmed glasses or full frames can be the most durable as the rim encloses the lenses completely. They are less prone to break or damage if handled properly and are more durable than rimless or half rimmed glasses. Moreover, full rimmed glasses are the best suited for individuals who have high powered prescriptions. Half Rimmed Half rimmed, semi-rimmed or supra eyeglasses were initially designed to reduce the overall weight of the spectacle or sunglasses when worn. These eyeglasses have a metal or a shell top or a combination of both and a thin, strong plastic gut inserted into the rim of the lens at the bottom. While this type of frame construction is a blend of both a rimless and full frame, it is again best suited for lenses that are not too thick and for people who handle their eyeglasses carefully Shapes of Eyeglasses that we Stock

The basis of all contact lenses is largely the same, which is Hydrogel and Silicone Hydrogel lenses. However some companies today, through in depth research & development, have been able to take the benefits of both materials to create a superior blend. Always purchase and wear contact lenses under the guidance of your Optometrist. If you don’t have one then please visit our store clinic to get the right diagnosis and product. What are Hydrogel contact lenses? Hydrogel lenses are made from gel-like, water-containing plastics called hydrogels. These soft contact lenses are very thin and pliable and conform to the surface of the eye. Introduced in the early 1970s, hydrogel lenses made contact lenses much more popular, thanks to the improved comfort and ease of use. Even though these lenses were introduced prior to Silicone Hydrogel lens and in terms of comfort it’s less superior, companies today have started exploring ways of adding features to make this material better. Companies that use Hydrogel material are Johnson & Johnson, Alcon, Cooper Vision and Bausch & Lomb. What are Silicone Hydrogel contact lenses? Silicone Hydrogel lenses are better than Hydrogel lenses as it allows more oxygen to pass through from the lens to the cornea (upto 5 times more). As such wearers can use these lenses for longer hours. Silicone is the name of a group of flexible, plastic-like materials that contain silicon, carbon, oxygen and other chemicals. It is a form of plastic. Today, the basis of most widely used contact lenses is silicone hydrogel material Companies that use Silicone Hydrogel material are Johnson & Johnson, Alcon, Cooper Vision and Bausch & Lomb. What are Rigid Gas Permeable contact lenses? Gas permeable contact lenses are rigid lenses made of durable plastics that allow oxygen to pass through the lens. These lenses also are called GP lenses, rigid gas permeable lenses, RGP lenses and oxygen permeable lenses. The base of these lenses are silicone but unlike silicone hydrogel contact lenses these are not soft. They remain hard even when worn and take time to get adjusted to wearing. Clarity of vision and maintenance with RGP lenses are much better than its soft counterparts, however comfort is not the best. These lenses should not be confused with the old fashioned PMMA lenses that were dispensed before hydrogel lenses were invented. RGP lenses are also used to treat patients with high astigmatism and keratoconus. These lenses should only be used if recommended by the Optometrist or if one is comfortable with using the same. To learn more about RGP or rigid gas permeable contact lenses please get in touch with our Optometrist; we do dispense these lenses. BOOK AN APPOINTMENT What are Scleral contact lenses? Scleral contact lenses are large, gas-permeable lenses that are specially designed to cover a significant portion of the eye's surface, including the sclera (the white part of the eye) and part of the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye). These lenses are unique because they don't rest directly on the cornea, unlike traditional contact lenses. Instead, they vault over the cornea, creating a small reservoir of sterile saline solution between the back surface of the lens and the front surface of the eye. Scleral lenses are significantly larger than standard contact lenses, which allows them to provide stability and support across the entire eye. They typically have a diameter ranging from 14 to 24 millimeters. Scleral contact lenses require specialised fitting by an eye care professional who has experience with these lenses. Proper care and maintenance are also essential to ensure their longevity and effectiveness. If you have specific vision needs or eye conditions that may benefit from scleral contact lenses, consult with our Optometrist who can assess your suitability for these lenses and guide you through the fitting process. BOOK AN APPOINTMENT Disclaimer It is important to use the right contact lens solution with your contact lenses in order to maximise comfort. The best fit would be to use the solution which is manufactured by the company making the contact lenses. This will help with maintenance and provide the most optimum experience when worn. If you need more guidance on contact lenses and contact solutions please get in touch with the Optometrist at our stores.

- Traditional Eyewear Bangalore | S.R.Gopal Rao Opticians | Bengaluru
SR Gopal Rao Bangalore has the best collection of traditional eyewear. Visit our branch and have a look. Traditional Bangalore See the Traditional Bangalore Collection | Be Trendy - Go Traditional! | See Bangalore Better Home to writers like Shashi Deshpande, playwrights like Prakash Belawadi, nuclear physicist Late Raja Ramanna, mega film star Late Vishnuvardhan and the man who kickstarted the IT revolution, N R Narayana Murthy, ‘Jaya’nagar is indeed home to champions of every stripe. Arguably one of the largest residential areas in Asia, Jayanagar, is subdivided into a seemingly mind boggling array of 10 blocks, including the 4th ‘T’ Block. And, when you venture into the labyrinthine Jayanagar 4th Block market, it does seem like an entire continent of people has descended upon it. Many of them mill about ‘Cool Joint’ and ‘Hot Chips’. Others make the trip craving some mango bhel, or Dharwad Peda, or crisp dosas from Ganesh Dose Camp. Simultaneously, hordes haggle with hawkers selling everything from vegetables in Janatha Bazaar, to silks and strings of jasmine, ornate gold jewellery to trinkets and balloons on the streets outside. Jayanagar & Basavangudi 1/1 Jayanagar will always be special... The market area retains a certain nostalgic air, for longtime residents. Some fondly recall the Puttanna Kanagal Theatre, renamed after one of the most famous Kannada film directors ever. Inaugurated in the late seventies, the single screen that could house a 800+ strong audience, Puttanna theatre was one of the most modern cinemas of its day. However, today, the razed site lies forlorn, amidst talks of a grand revival. Still others are moved to take a trip down memory lane when they pass by South End and the historic Ashoka Pillar, erected to mark the southernmost end of the city. The city has expanded way past its original boundaries and Jayanagar too has morphed into a glitzier avatar. The choicest international brands, a new crop of restaurants, a couple of drinking places and multiplexes may seem a little out of place in this classic part of Bangalore...however, Jayanagar has always been truly cosmopolitan in the ways that matter. 1/1 1/1 For the Ganesha Temple has always been a stone’s throw away from one of the city’s largest mosques. It’s stark white marble Jain temple a quick walk away from a beautiful church. And its streets home to polyglots who speak a mix of Urdu, Tamil, Telegu, Hindi, and Kannada with ease. Easy access to some of the city’s most well known colleges like National College, NMKRV and Vijaya College, hospitals, multiple parks including Lalbagh, and presence of a large BMTC bus depot have all made this one of the most livable parts of town. And Jayanagar will always have an extra special place for SRGR, as 3rd Block houses our 3rd store, that began operations in 2011. So join the hubbub of the marketplace, or step away and find your own oasis of calm, in the large and cultured vistas of Jayanagar. For this locality that began as a planned residential layout way back in 1948 seems to have lost none of its mojo, almost 70 years hence. And much like SRGR, Jayanagar goes to show that some things become a true classic with time... One look and these sunnies scream designer. Maui Jim sunglasses were created on the shiny, happy, Hawaiian Islands to make the world a cooler place. Their products feature the patented PolarizedPlus2® lens technology for brilliant colour so every detail is crisper and cleaner and without glare or harmful UV. Slip on a pair and See The Brilliance. This text isn't scripted but it is written by none other than the family that manages the business. Visit us to understand our processes and the care that goes into dispensing each item. Every eye piece in our store is important and so is every customer. It was the late 19th century. Bifocals had been around for a few decades now and trifocals had been recently invented. Contact lenses were still a concept being explored that wouldn’t come into their own for at least half a century. The world over, men and women were trying out different eye-wear to enhance vision. As evolutionary beings, we had come a long way since Seneca read books using a globe of water for magnification in 4 BC. India was not unfamiliar with visual aids. There have been references in our texts which point to usage as early as the 19th century, and even invention in South India. Vision aids may have been an accessory of the elite in pre-independence India but a definite market did exist. The industry however, was in a nascent space. It was in this environment that a young man brought alive his vision and entrepreneurial dynamism. A young retailer of spectacles, watches and dentistry instruments, set up shop in the Cantonment area of Bangalore to dispense opticianry of quality. Full of verve and versatility, this young man brought his business acumen to usher in organised and professional retail services to a fledgling industry. In 1971 with Malathi Manay and Chandrashekar Manay the second generation took succession. In 1972 the store saw its first renovation, a step to newer modern times that the brand has always embraced. In 1974, continuing with the same pioneering spirit, the business started its first contact lens practice and became one of the earliest retailers in the city to do so. 1982-2011 It's time for the third generation to take the brand to loftier heights. In 1982, Hemanth Manay completed his Diploma in Optometry and joined the business He broadened the brand identity by introducing international luxury and premium brands in the 1980’s. He changes the face of the company to a sought-after store for the rarest and the best.
